JA Philippines, JPMorganChase highlight student-led sustainability solutions
TAGUIG CITY, Philippines — Young innovators took the spotlight during the Career Connect Finals on April 20, 2026, held simultaneously at the JPMorganChase Towers in Manila and Cebu, as student-led sustainability projects showcased creative solutions to pressing environmental and community issues. The event marked the culmination of Career Connect’s six-month pilot program, implemented by JA Philippines in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd), bringing together students, educators, JPMorganChase employee volunteers, and partners to celebrate the achievements of aspiring green leaders.
The initiative was designed to equip senior high school students with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the growing green economy. More than 1,000 students from Metro Manila and Cebu participated in online learning sessions covering sustainability, green careers, innovation, leadership, communication, teamwork, ethical responsibility, and critical thinking. After completing the training, student teams pitched sustainability-focused projects through video presentations, with the top 20 receiving mentorship from JPMorganChase volunteers before the top 10 finalists presented their ideas during the finals. Organizers highlighted the program's role in bridging education and employment by providing students with real-world mentorship and exposure to emerging career opportunities.
Among the winners, Agriprop from Sudlon Integrated School in Cebu City claimed first place for its research on using fish amino acid and aloe vera extract as an alternative to inorganic fertilizer for growing red lettuce. Liwanags from Ilaya Barangka Integrated School in Mandaluyong secured second place with Project IBIS, a geospatial auditing proposal aimed at improving public safety while reducing municipal costs. Third place went to Vermiventures from Guba National High School in Cebu City for its neighborhood vermicomposting hub concept that transforms biodegradable waste into fertilizer. Organizers and mentors praised the students' growth throughout the program, emphasizing that their innovative ideas and strengthened confidence demonstrate the potential of the next generation to drive sustainability and create lasting positive impact in their communities.
